Call for Special Issue Proposals

Hiroshima Journal of Mathematics Education (HJME), an international journal of mathematics education, invites proposals for Special Issues (SIs). The journal views SIs as opportunities to foster scholarly exchange and critical dialogue on specific areas of research in mathematics education, bringing together researchers, educators, and practitioners with different perspectives.
Once an SI proposal is accepted, all manuscripts submitted to the SI will be subject to the same peer‑review standards as those applied to regular issues. The SI will be managed by the Guest Editors and in consultation with the HJME Editorial Team.

Submission Guidelines for SI Proposals:

Written proposals should include the following:

  • Tentative title of the SI. Please ensure that the topic of your proposal falls within the scope of HJME.
  • List of Guest Editors (at least two). Please include their names, affiliations, email addresses, research interests, and ORCID identifiers (optional).
  • Summary of the SI (about 250–300 words) and relevant keywords (3–10 keywords). The summary should explain how the SI will address important issues in the development and research of mathematics education, and how it has the potential to foster communication among international researchers, educators, and practitioners in the field.
  • Tentative Timeline for the SI. The timeline should indicate the expected dates for the Call for Papers announcement, manuscript submission deadline, peer review, revision and final decision stages, and publication. Following approval of the SI proposal, the SI is normally expected to progress from the Call for Papers to the submission of the final accepted manuscripts within approximately 6–12 months.

Responsibilities of Guest Editors:

  • Once a proposal has been accepted, the Guest Editors will submit a draft Call for Papers to the HJME Editorial Team.
  • SIs will be managed by the Guest Editors in collaboration with the HJME Editorial Team. The Guest Editors will be responsible for assigning reviewers to submitted manuscripts, overseeing the whole peer review process, and drafting decision letters to authors. The HJME Editorial Team will provide feedback and guidance throughout the process.

Review of Manuscripts Submitted to an SI:

All manuscripts submitted to an SI will undergo HJME’s standard peer review process. Manuscripts that are not accepted for publication in the SI may be considered for publication in a future regular issue of HJME.
